PDHPE by year

PDHPE - Year 7

Students will be introduced to the nature of health and healthy lifestyles.  A review of the structure and function of the body leads to the study of adolescence and change and the physical health issues that are involved.  Students will also study social health issues including relationships and the strategies to deal with the social challenges of adolescents and young people today.  Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to address personal health issues such as nutrition and drug use.

The role of physical activity is examined through experiences in general movement, athletic and games sense contexts.  It includes practical work on movement skills and includes springing, landing and vaulting as well as dance, modified games and sports skills.

 

PDHPE - Year 8

Students will be introduced to the nature of health and healthy lifestyles. The study of personal safety issues is completed to reinforce the knowledge and skills of safe living.  Students will also study social health issues including relationships and the strategies to deal with the social challenges of adolescents and young people today.  Nutrition, Lifestyle and Communicable Diseases, Health Products and Services are also studied.

The role of physical activity is examined through experiences in general movement, athletic and games sense contexts. It includes practical work on gymnastics, International Games, Fitness and Recreational Sports.

 

PDHPE - Year 9

Students will review the nature of health and healthy lifestyles. Students will also study social health issues including relationships and the strategies to deal with the social challenges of adolescents and young people today.  Mental Health issues, sense of self and the beneficial role of physical activity are also studied. The role of physical activity is examined through experiences in general movement, athletic and games sense contexts. It includes practical work on Invasion Games, Fitness, court games and Recreational Games.

 

PDHPE - Year 10

Students will review the nature of health and healthy lifestyle.  Personal safety issues and the knowledge and skills of safe living in relation to sexual activity and risk taking behaviour such as drink driving are examined.  Students will also study social health issues including relationships and the strategies to deal with the social challenges of adolescents and young people today. Consumerism, Sense of Self and aboriginal Health issues are also studied. The role of physical activity is examined through experiences in general movement, athletic and games sense contexts. It includes practical work on Gymnastics, Target games, Striking Games and Aussie Sports.

 

Physical Activity and Sports Studies - Elective Years 9 and 10

This is a course in human movement that provides opportunities for students to learn about being physically active and its positive influence on health.  In this subject, students will study the structure and function of the human body and how it creates efficient movement as well as investigating sports coaching and administration.  Students will learn how to plan to improve performance, the types of training, the components of fitness as well as physical and psychological factors will be used to analyse and design training programs.  In addition they will identify the roles and responsibilities associated with sports administration and have practical experience in organising sports events.

 

Dance - Elective Years 9 and 10

Dance has existed as a vital part of culture and is a distinct form of non-verbal communication that uses the body as an instrument of expression.  Elective dance enables students to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of appreciation, composition and performance and study dance as an artform. Students will study:

  • Safe dance practice and appropriate dance technique with increasing skill and complexity in the performance of combinations, sequences and dances.
  • Manipulating aspects of the elements of dance.
  • Application of aspects of performance quality and interpretation through performance.
  • Composition and structured dance movements that communicates an idea.
  • The link between their performances and compositions and dance
  • New movement sequences.
  • Composition of a dance sequence.
